Supporting Sustainability at Ashes Farm 🌿

Updated: Nov 22

At Ashes Farm, environmental care has been at the heart of our ethos since day one. We believe in protecting the natural beauty of the Yorkshire Dales, not just for our generation but for those who follow. By promoting sustainability, we aim to ensure tourism thrives in harmony with nature. Here's how we’ve been working towards a greener future—and how you can join us during your stay.

Our Commitment to Supporting Sustainability

We’ve taken numerous steps to minimize our environmental impact, and we're proud to share them with you:

Reducing Plastic Waste

  • Refillable Dispensers: Our shower gel is provided in reusable dispensers.

  • Fresh Milk Flasks: Enjoy fresh milk served in reusable flasks.

  • Eco-Friendly Storage: Tea, coffee, sugar, and our homemade biscuits are kept in reusable containers.

  • Ashes Farm Water: We’ve switched to glass bottles for our own water supply, with plastic bottles only as a backup.

Recycling and Reusing

  • We make our homemade marmalade using recycled jars and use larger jars of jam instead of single portions.

  • All paper, glass, plastic, card, and tins are reused or recycled wherever possible.

Energy Efficiency

  • All lighting, appliances, and televisions in our guest rooms are energy-efficient.

  • Our laundry facilities include AAA-rated washing machines and tumble dryers.

Eco-Friendly Cleaning

  • Cleaning materials are chosen to be environmentally safe, respecting our septic tank system and suporting local sustanability programs.

Composting & Feeding Nature

  • Compost Bin: Up to 80% of our waste is compostable.

  • Bird Feeders: Unused toast doesn’t go to waste—it feeds the local birdlife.
